Spiritual Vitality: Renewing Hearts for Faithful Gospel Mission
Schedule - Sessions and Workshops
Morning
8:00 AM – Registration
8:40 AM — Morning Devotions
9:00 AM — Session #1
The Vision for Spiritual Vitality: Vitality and piety belong together, but they are not the same. Piety is the outward shape of devotion; prayer, worship, obedience, and faithful practices before God. Vitality is the life within them: the Spirit-given heartbeat that makes those practices living, and not merely mechanical. This session offers a Gospel-optimistic vision of transformed life that resists low expectations of grace or reduced discipleship. Instead, it calls us to see God’s desire clearly: to form us into the image of Christ, whole, healthy, and flourishing in both inner life and outward witness. (Rev. Andy Coyle)
10:00 AM — Session #2
Walk by the Spirit: The Shape of New Life in Christ: New life in Christ has a shape, and it’s forged by the Spirit, not fast results. This session anchors you in your Gospel identity while facing the real battle within; saint and sinner, repentance and faith, growth that feels slow and costly. We’ll get concrete about walking by the Spirit through the long obedience of sanctification. Why does it feel so slow, and how do you measure real change? This session reframes expectations and is a call to steady, Spirit-led faithfulness that trusts God’s work beneath the surface. (Rev. Dana Coyle)
10:50 AM — Break
11:10 AM — Session #3
Wellsprings of Life: The Means of Grace and Vitality: Vitality doesn’t come from innovation; it flows from the gifts God has already given. George Sverdrup called the Means of Grace the “Wellsprings of Life,” and this session recenters them as the true source of spiritual vitality and renewal. We’ll reexamine the “hardware” of the worship service not as routine structure, but as God’s living, active work among His people. This is a call to recover the “why” beneath the forms and rediscover where real life in the church begins. (Rev. Matthew Ballmann)
12:00 AM — Lunch
Afternoon
12:45 PM — Hymn, Scripture, & Prayer
1:00 PM — Workshop #1 Options
Life Together in the Congregation: Sanctification isn’t a solo project, it’s forged in life together. This session explores how God uses the congregation as the place where “iron sharpens iron,” shaping us through relationships, encouragement, and even friction. We’ll recover a vision of shared life where growth happens side by side, not in isolation. The call is to lean into the community God has given as the primary context for real, lasting transformation. (Rev. Dr. Jason Holt)
Overcoming Spiritual Apathy: Spiritual apathy rarely appears overnight; it grows through subtle barriers that dull our hunger for God and weaken our engagement with His Word. This session names those barriers honestly and invites leaders into clear-eyed assessment of their own spiritual condition. From there, we explore practical pathways toward renewal; intentional leadership, life-giving rhythms, and a deliberate recentering on Christ. Grounded in gospel optimism, this teaching calls us to expect that God is eager and able to restore spiritual vitality. (Rev. Mark Molstre)
2:00 PM — Workshop #2 Options
Conflicts and Congregation: Conflict doesn’t just disrupt a congregation; it can ruin it. This session addresses the deeper relational fractures beneath surface-level tensions and disunity. We’ll name the roots of conflict and move toward real healing through biblical clarity, honest conversations, and Christ-centered reconciliation. The goal isn’t just peacekeeping, but restored unity that strengthens the whole body. (Rev. Micah Hjermstad)
Vitality, Piety for Witness: Spiritual leadership rises or falls on the health of the leader’s soul. This session takes an honest look at the quiet dangers that drain spiritual vitality while pointing back to Christ as the true source of renewal. Through practical encouragement and Gospel-centered wisdom, participants will be equipped to cultivate a healthy inner life shaped by ongoing rhythms of Word, repentance, faith, and abiding in Christ. (Rev. Mike Brandt)
