Here is what some of our pastors, Parish Builders, and lay leaders are saying about the Retreat:
Such a wonderful retreat! Not just AZ and the weather, but Calvary’s pastor and people, our HMC wives and their selfless serving, and the rich time in Word and worship and fellowship. I came thinking I was going to be giving, but I was so impacted by the presence of God and the Lord’s dealing with me in love and correction that I came away being powerfully refreshed in a way that I have not experienced in years.- Home Missions Committee Member
The conference had dynamic presenters with powerful messages in each presentation. The theme in the morning meetings was praying to our Father who wants to meet with us and desires a relationship with us. The afternoon message stressed the importance of “listening” to the Father. We also learned how to see interruptions in ministry as a blessing.- Home Missions Parish Builder

Sometimes the busyness of serving in ministry chokes out the necessary practice of pausing to consider what the LORD Jesus has done and is doing around us and through us. At the 2014 Leadership Retreat in Mesa, AZ our retreat vision was to inspire the heart and offer practical application to the hands of the Home Mission Pastor and his wife, Parish Builder, and other key congregation leaders.
Topics covered throughout the week included “Help! We aren’t on the same page: When People Disagree” by Ollie Olson. “Considering Christ in Worship and Social Media” by Ryan Egan. Additional Bible studies and practical sessions were led by Pastor Dale Finstrom, Pastor Rick Long, Pastor Joe Ocker, Pastor Paul Nash, and Pastor Al Monson.

Sometimes the busyness of serving in ministry chokes out the necessary practice of pausing to reflect and rest in the Lord. At the 2015 Leadership Retreat we considered, “Love the Lord Your God…” Our retreat vision is to inspire the heart and offer practical application to the hands of the Home Missions Pastor and his wife, Parish Builder, and other key congregation leaders.

In 2016 we looked at how rapidly our world was changing. The horrific events in Paris that brought tragedy and grief to many homes, families and that nation had happened a short time before. The question often asked was, “Are things falling apart? But perhaps we should rephrase this question from a Christian perspective, “Are things falling together?” “Is God allowing things to fall together for His plan and purposes? Each day brings us closer to the day when that trumpet will sound and we will be united with the Lord forever. At the retreat we emphasized that until He comes through those clouds, we have much work to do. We want to make the most of every opportunity to share the Good News and minister effectively. Some of the topics from this years retreat included:
- Teaching People how to Study the Bible
- “Salt and Light”
- From Oppression to Liberty: How the East German Churches Brought Down the Berlin Wall
- Sharing the Gospel
- Using Technology for Discipleship
- More Than Conquerors: Standing Firm on Faith in a Secular World
- Spiritual Warfare
- Avoiding Burnout
- And MUCH MUCH MORE!

Our 2017 theme was “EQUIPPED: The How of Discipleship” and our theme verse came from II Timothy 3:17 which states “so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work”.
A significant part of the retreat was spent going through the “Becoming a Disciple-Maker” material from International Evangelism Association with Bob Baldwin. Dr. Steve Lombardo also shared several sessions on the ministry of the pastor.
